First Santorum Shivs McCain; Then Toomey Aims a Kick to His Groin

I have been waiting to comment on the recent dust-up between Pat Toomey and John McCain.  Pat, you may recall, challenged Arlen Specter in the GOP senate primary, and lost, after serving in the House of Representatives.  He is now the Club for Growth’s bigwig.

I was thinking perhaps Pat would go out of his way to offer kind words for Mayor Giuliani while doing his part to prevent McCain from gaining the White House.  Well, he didn’t, although in this interview with The Morning Call’s Josh Drobnyk [Josh may make this site superfluous!] he did allow as the Club was still deciding whether to support Rudy or Romney.  He did sound like he wouldn’t mind others entering the race.

What does this dust-up mean to Team Rudy in PA?  Well, with the vocal opposition of our commonwealth’s two leading conservatives it certainly means John McCain will be fighting an uphill battle in our presidential primary.  With the choice thus far, then, being between Romney and Giuliani, I would say that considerably strengthens Hizzoner’s position.  I just don’t see an inconsistent Mormon from Massachusetts playing well in Pennsylvania.

So Rick and Pat’s non-endorsement of McCain may be almost as good as an endorsement for Rudy.

I agree with that assessment … though I think their hearts are with Gingrich and Thompson.

See my post over at http://bloggers4rudy.com/ to see the early data on how Thompson coyly batting his eyelashes has effected Giuliani’s numbers, at least according to a poll in Ohio. Short answer: They haven’t. One may be able, though, to make an argument that he is taking some of Newt’s voters.
